I was lucky enough to see the Northern Lights back in December 2017, in Iceland.
I had been dreaming of seeing them for quite a while but when I had bought these BlackMilk leggings a few years ago, I didn’t know when I’d be able to actually see them.
I think my love for Aurora Borealis dates back from His Dark Materials… The other nickname I use on Instagram, Lyra Ophelia, comes from Pullman’s main protagonist Lyra Belacqua. Lyra is a young girl brought up in a parallel universe Oxford, and she will go all the way North to islands with talking bears and Auroras that might lead to other worlds.
I would love to see parallel universes but also just see the Northern Lights again. In the meantime, I was gazing at a blue sky, in a London too South for the lights (well, not South enough, as Southern Lights are a thing).
In Lyra’s universe, people are not just one entity. They have daemons, which are a part of themselves materialised in an animal.
In true His Dark Materials style, I might be accompanied by my Daemon… but is it the spider from Rogue + Wolf or the Octopus from Edemonium? Or the cat on my shoes from TUK? I’m sure it’s an octopider or a spoctopus… (As the octocat is already taken by GitHub.)
To compliment my ring and the garden, my top was full of spiders, as well as of another animal featuring in His Dark Materials: the dragonfly. Gallivespians ride them in book 3…
I got this bag for a bargain, as a shop in Camden Lock Market was closing…
I’m now ready to visit a parallel universe… Would you like to as well?
